De vuelta de Salduero

ImageChef.com

“¿Cuántos años, meses, días?
Horas solo cumple El Duero

“Thank you, Salduero, you will always be in our hearts”

Cortegana in Salduero

As part of The Salduero Experience, we were very lucky to make great friends from I.E.S. San José in Cortegana, a pretty town in the northern sierra of Huelva, in the south west of Spain.

On the first day they showed us the video they had prepared to introduce themselves and their home town, a lovely part of Spain we are looking forward to visiting in the future. There is also a worksheet with the written description of the town and vocabulary n English you may need for the understanding of the text.

Outdoor activities: Pico del Águila & Molinos de Duero

Here you have a presentation of the trips we have made to two lovely places around Salduero: Molinos and Pico del Águila, a natural "watchtower" where one can enjoy a gorgeous view after a steep climb uphill. Up there we ate a tasty ham sandwich and  Aragonese fruits to give us energy after such hard physical exercise.
Molinos is a small town very close toSalduero where we  had a great time playing games

Getting ready for Salduero.

 A FIELD NOTEBOOK

We just needed a naturalist's tool to  keep a daily record of our observations and impressions on the natural environment we are going to visit. A field notebook is a narrative diary of our daily observations, in which we can include information about the locality, the time, the weather, flora and wildlife.
This is the field notebook we have prepared in which you can read relevant information about Salduero as well as information and guidelines for a sustainable tourism. A useful and lovely reminder of your stay in Salduero.

ImageChef.com

This Sunday twenty-five 2nd -year E.S.O. pupils and two teachers(Isabel Mariñosa & Chelo Calavia , English and Science teachers) are going on an English camp in Salduero , Soria, thanks to the scholarship given by the Spanish Minister of Education through a selection process. Our high school prepared a project based on the environment and sustainable development and was chosen thorough a selection process.

The main objectives we seek to attain during the English Week can be summarised in three:

  1. To improve and practise our English. Communication will be in English all the time. Native and bilingual teachers will be with us working on the topics of the project.
  2. To get in contact with nature, learn about the environment and develop environment-friendly attitudes. Salduero is a beautiful area surrounded by woods and The Duero River.
  3. To live together and have fun. This is an enjoyable experience which will give you the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy yourself.

International Day of the girl: 11 October

"The newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals rightly include key targets for gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They offer an opportunity for a global commitment to breaking intergenerational transmission of poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination – and realizing our vision of a life of dignity for all."
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations declared 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and to raise people's consciousness about the terrible situations and conditions in which little girls and young women are forced to live in the world today, forced to arranged marriages, adolescent motherhood, violations or sexual slavery and deprived of basic human rights just for their genre condition.

Global Goals and Education

"World Leaders have committed to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality & injustice. Fix climate change. The Global Goals for sustainable development could get these things done. In all countries. For all people. If the Goals are going to work, everyone needs to know about them. TELL EVERYONE."

On 5 October, World Teachers’ Day, Education International supporters and followers worldwide, got a compromise with the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, to take an active role in their implementation. Best summer homework ever

ImageChef.com

This is the end of the school year, and before we all start our deserved holidays, I would like you to read the original homework handed in to pupils by an Italian teacher.

It is the list of things his pupils must do for the summer.

1- In the morning, now and then, walk by yourself along the seashore.Look at how the sun reflects on the water, thinking of the things you like best in life and feel happy.

2- Try to use all the new words you have learnt this year. You will be able to say more things, you will think about more things, and the more you think, the freer you will feel.

3-Read as much as posible. No because you have to. Read because the summer inspires you adventures and dreams. By reading, you will feel as the birds flying. Read because it is the best form of rebellion.

4-Avoid all the things, situations and people that make you feel negative and empty.Look for stimulating situations and friends that appreciate and understand you for being who you are.

5- If you feel sad and scared, don't worry. The summer, as all the big things, disrupts your soul. Try to write a diary where you can write about your feelings ( and in September, if you like, we can read it together)

6- Dance, without feeling embarrassed. On the street, near your house or in your bedroom. Summer is a dance. It would be a pity not to take part of it.

7- At least once, you have to see the dawn. Stand there quiet and breathe. Close your eyes, grateful.
8-Do a lot of sport.

9-If you like a person a lot, tell him/ her with all the sincerity and grace you are able to. It doesn't matter whether he/she understands it or not. If it is not mutual, then it wasn't foreseen that he /she would be part of your destiny. On the contrary, the 2015 summer is a great oportunity to walk together ( if it does not work, go back to point 8)

10- Remember what you have learnt at high school and revise your notes

11-Be happy as the sun, untameable as the sea.

12-Don't use foul language. Be always extremely polite and kind.

13- Enjoy movies with emotive dialogues, above all in English. This will help you improve your linguistic skills and your chances to dream. Don't let a movie finish with the credits. Live the experience throughout the summer.

14- At daytime and at night, dream about what your life could be like.During the summer, gather strength not to give in and do your best to pursue that dream.

ImageChef.com

We are delighted to announce the three pupils going for the final in the Microfiction Contest 2015 organised by the English Department for the high school's Book Day.

                   THEIR LIVES' BOOK

"They looked into their eyes, in their hands they had the book of their history, the
history of their lives. Both were afraid of what was written, but they should
carry on. They thought it was time to open it and read it, but they did not
like the end, so they decided to rewrite it. "

                                                                              Guayén Guarido Sanagustín ( 3 ESO D)

                                                                        THE BOOK

"There was a book.  The book lived in a library because he had a dream,
reading a book, but he couldn't do it because he was a book!.
One day he decided to place opposite a mirror and read himself.
At the end of the book he died. His dream had come true."

                                                                                         Jorge Pargada ( 2 ESO E )

THE SOCERER'S DREAM

"Running under the rain, a boy was trying to hide an enormous codex,
when suddenly it cover started shining in a blue energy. He felt something cold
at his nape, and heard the sound of a shot, which made him violently wake up,
inside a completely dark hole. The boy punched the ground angrily, and his fist
shined in the same blue energy."
                                                                Violeta Soler Ramos ( 4 ESO C)

Congratulations ! It was a difficult decision because all the participants handed  in        splendid stories.
